Popis: Bright colors and pleasant haptics are the essentials for aesthetic parts in jewelry, watch industry, for interior in automotive or as control elements for consumer products or domestic appliances. Plastics in any color shade are state of the art. In order to create a unique selling point new materials that stand for exclusivity and show the high value of a long-lived product are inquired. Ceramics score in scratch resistance, but the available colors are limited since many color pigments are destroyed during the sintering process. This was the starting point for our search of an alternative material. The almost unlimited color pallet of glazes for porcelain seemed appealing for meeting the requirements of product designers. However, the scope was not to decorate a component with a glassy surface but to create a solid component. The advantages of powder injection molding (PIM) that allows for the fabrication of complex shapes in large quantities make this shaping technology desirable for mass products. In contrast to traditional glass forming which involves melting of glass with subsequent casting, blowing, drawing or rolling PIM manufactured components can be produced with fairly sharp edges without additional machining.
