Popis: This thesis attempts to shed some light on the potential mechanisms with which motor entrainment to rhythmic auditory stimuli is made possible. An investigation of the effect of rhythmic auditory stimuli at different inter beat intervals on the corticospinal excitability of the motor system was conducted. Ten participants were asked to listen to a rhythm while reading a book. A transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) setup was used to elicit motor evoked potentials at short intervals surrounding (approx.) 1000 randomly selected beats. A repeated measures ANOVA indicated the absence of any statistically significant main effects of inter stimulus interval (F(8,9)=.239, p>.05), inter beat interval (F(1,9)=1.762, p>.05) or interaction of the two (F(8,1,9)=.777, p>.05) on EMG amplitude. A discussion as to the meaning of these results and their limitations should serve as a means of further investigating the role of auditory stimuli in motor entrainment.
