This thesis investigates my hypothesis that the ideological background for the invasion in Iraq in march 2003 was delivered by the neoconservatives via an organization named `Project for a New American Century´(PNAC) and that the invasion was made possible by a massive failure by the mechanisms, that should counter the executive powers. I will examine the neoconservative background and ideology and examine the links between PNAC and the G.W. Bush-administration. I will also examine other links between the PNAC and other organizations. I will analyze the actions taken by the different branches of the political system in relation to the invasion in order to document the second part of my hypothesis. I will examine whether the division of powers was corrupted, and if it was, then to what extent. I will also examine the role of the medias and investigate, whether the medias were able or willing to fulfill their role as the 4th branch of government, or if they let down the public by being spokespersons for the governments agenda. I will try to explain the errors that were made in the process around this invasion in order to determine, why this action went so horribly wrong and why the predictions about the outcome, made from the people behind the invasion, were so wildly off the mark. |
