Popis: This thesis is based on a case study of a marginalized area in Copenhagen called Mimersgadekvarteret. To develop this district and integrate the areas many different ethnic minorities, a public space project called Superkilen was initiated. The objective was to create an 'archipelago' of recreational public spaces, that could serve as gathering places for both the background population and the different ethnic minorities. By creating such gathering places the aim was to enhance the relations between the background population and the ethnic minorities. Based on this case, and these public spaces, this thesis explores the social possibilites, embedded in bodily encounters between strangers in public spaces. Using a method that brings the interviewer and the informants into the public spaces, the thesis is able to conclude, that through the integration of public space and cycle and pedestrian paths, it is possible both to create a better understanding of marginalized areas in the city and the ethnic minorities inhabiting the space.
