This report updates an earlier report whose exercise was conducted in 1992 to assess pollution loads into the marine environment from land based activities along the Kenya coast. Like the previous one this new report presents the current picture of the same problem but is now widened to include how the activities affect the quality and uses of the marine coastal and associated fresh water environments. Output of this rapid assessment exercise is expected to provide an indication of the pollutants that are of immediate importance and require , appropriate action in terms of monitoring and management. The study involved the estimation of waste volumes and pollution loads from industrial sources, domestic sources, tourist beach hotels, shipping activities, storm water and agricultural activities, including livestock.
