Construction of triangles: some misconceptions and difficulties

Popis: | International audience; This study aims to analyze tasks that involve the construction of triangles and which are included in 6th grade national assessment tests in Portugal. More specifically, we analyze the mental processes used by the students, the difficulties experienced and the mistakes made in solving these tasks. The study follows a methodology of an interpretative nature, with data collection from the students’ tests, the productions of the students and of interviews recorded in audio. In summary, the results show that, in linear measurement, many students demonstrated a quite acceptable level of sophistication. However, in the construction of angle the causes of their difficulties seem to be the absence of adequate structural components. |
