Popis: The role of the ‘Staten-Generaal’ (the Dutch Parliament) in the treaty making process has often been criticized – both in Dutch constitutional law literature and by the ‘Staatscommissie Grondwet’ (State Commission on the Dutch Constitution) in 2010. This thesis investigates that role: the reasons for wanting to give parliament a (strong) role in the treaty making process, the system/framework of laws and regulations regarding this role – as well as the way they are put into practice –, the weaknesses in that system and, through this, opportunities for strengthening the role of parliament.
