Popis: In the Netherlands, some schools for secondary education (Technasia) provide specialized Research & Design (R&D) courses. An objective of R&D courses is that students learn to reflect on their developed cross-curricular competencies. R&D applies the pedagogical approach of problem-based learning. Through active engagement with meaningful activities students create their own learning processes. To develop their competencies, students need a supportive learning environment with teachers who take on the role of a facilitator. However, teachers have since the onset of R&D in 2004 been challenged to provide proper support and take on their required roles. To take a step towards teacher professionalization on these issues, this study aims to answer two research questions: In what way is reflecting on cross-curricular competencies currently supported within the different Technasia? What learning goals do R&D teachers have regarding guiding students' reflection process? During five small-scale workshops, 20 R&D teachers were interviewed. They gave their views and experiences about students’ reflection and teachers’ feedback. Personal learning questions from these teachers concerning the reflection process were collected. Focus group interviews were analyzed with framework content analyses. Results show that R&D teachers consider reflecting on competencies as a very important part of the course. Experienced R&D teachers indicated to have less difficulty giving feedback on the process than R&D teachers with less experience. All teachers were struggling with the balance between coaching on competencies and the quality of the end product. To improve their teaching, teachers would like to have guidelines and would like to improve their coaching skills. The next step is to use this studies’ results to develop a professionalization trajectory for R&D teachers.
