Popis: | In one of the surgical remarks included in his collected works, Dutch anatomist Frederik Ruysch (1638-1731) tells his readers the following story: Anno 1681, I visited a certain thief (commonly called the little butcher) in prison, who because of his thieving, had been condemned to the gallows, and I asked him which illnesses had tormented him during his life; he answered: I have always lived healthily, I have known few diseases, I only suffered from a fever a few years ago: In addition he said he had never been able to lay his right hand flat on a table, after he had once fallen on it from a height. |
