Popis: Obesity is the manifestation of a disturbance of the equilibrium between energy intake and energy expenditure. The balance between these components is achieved by the interaction of many factors. Several recent studies, and also this thesis, indicate that the central nervous system play a crucial role in this control of metabolism. This control is mainly effectuated via the autonomic nervous system. Three factors, associated with the autonomic nervous system, were investigated in this thesis with respect to their importance in the development and maintenance of obesity. Firstly, regulation of insulin secretion as preeminent factor directing the flow of nutrients. Secondly, the amount of nutrients consumed.
