Popis: | We study the screening of the Coulomb interaction in C-60 and carbon nanotubes. It is shown that for these systems the screening deviates strongly from the Clausius-Mossotti behavior. The short range interaction is strongly screened and the long range interaction is anti-screened, thereby strongly reducing the gradient of the Coulomb interaction. For the nanotubes a cross-over from quasi one dimensional to two dimensional screening is found with increasing radius of the nanotube. The unconventional screening explains the moderate effect of electron-electron correlations on the electronic structure of these molecules. |
