Popis: This progress report refers to work done at the Fluid IVlechanics Section within the framework of the Netherlands Centre for Coastal Research (NCK). In the coastal zone the long wave motion may contribute significantly to the morpho-dynamics, due to its strong correlation with the short wave motion by surf beat. Also wave-group induced edge-waves may produce beat formations in the shoreline and bathymetry. Further there are strong indications that wave-group related processes are important in the formation of rip channels (Reniers et al. 2000). The present report describes in Section 2 the discretization of the boundary. conditions on the curvilinear grid as used in the Delft-3D FLOW solver, as well as the choices made with regard to the signals used to make the short and long waves enter the domain. Section 3 describes options to determine the direction of propagation of the (short-wave) energy, as well as a one-dimensional example of frequency modulation.
