Popis: | Eritreans are caught in ‘black holes’ in the digital landscape – both in Eritrea, where ICTs and Internet connectivity are strictly controlled by the government, and when they flee, forced to depend on smugglers and traffickers. This control continues on their journeys and once in Libya – where they are detained, tortured, exploited and even killed. Their ‘illegal’ status prevents them from accessing protection and makes them targets for exploitation. They do not have the ‘right to have rights’. Many fall victim to human trafficking for ransom. The policies of the EU are exacerbating this situation and trapping them in a human trafficking cycle. |
