Objective : To assess the value of the BRAHMS PCT®-Q test method in clinical practice in relation to the quantitative test in children with meningococcal disease. Design : Retrospective study. Twenty patients with septic shock were included; 24 samples were used to perform the PCT®-Q. Severity of meningococcal disease was determined using lactate, fibrinogen, leucocytes, thrombocytes, CRP, the PRISM-score and time between development of petechiae and the first blood sample. Results : Comparing the two PCT tests, we found a discrepancy in results in 3 patients. In the quantitative test we measured 4.1 μg/l, 3.6 μg/l and 1.6 μg/l respectively while in the PCT®-Q test concentrations were classified as 0.5-2 μg/l, 0.5-2 μg/l and |
