Popis: | In Sinai trafficking Eritreans made up the majority of victims. But what makes them so vulnerable to human trafficking for ransom? The interviews for this chapter found a number of reasons, including the fact that Eritrea is a ‘black hole’ in the digital landscape – which means that Eritreans are uninformed and dependent on smugglers and traffickers for information. In addition, the indefinite national service and human rights situation in the country drive many to flee, forcing them into the arms of traffickers. This situation has been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic and the war in Tigray. |
