Popis: The cabinet approved “A Plan for 300,000 Exchange Students” put forward by the Japanese government in 2008. The employment support for foreign students is one of the tasks. !According to a survey for foreign students living in Japan, those who wish to find employment in Japan after graduating is a majority. The most desirable type of jobs is international affairs, and the second is translator & interpreter. On the other hand, the common purposes for Japanese companies to hire foreign personnel are their language ability, their sensibility, and their international way of thinking. The foreign students hired as high-skilled personnel are expected to play active parts as mediators between Japanese companies and their customers by utilizing their language abilities and cross-cultural communication skills. We conducted a survey in Thailand to find out what kinds of mediation skills were needed to be high-skilled personnel focusing on interpreters working in Thailand. According to our survey, it is proved that the high-skilled interpreters are playing active roles as cross-cultural communicators.
