Comparison of bird fauna between an urban woodlot and a suburban stand in Tsu, Mie prefecture

Popis: Recent attentions have been paid to the reduction in the species diversity of bird fauna caused by the shrinkages and/or fragmentations of vegetation due to urban developments. Here, we investigated the bird fauna in an urban woodlot (Mie University campus) and a suburban stand (RedHill Hiisa’s Forest owned by Akatsuka Garden Co., Ltd) in Tsu, Mie prefecture, Japan for ca. 32 months, and discussed the possible factors responsible for affecting the diversity of the bird fauna. We performed a line census about once a month in both sites. We identified in the woodlot 23 families, 27 genera and 31 species, including many city species, that is, those species that prefer to open sites and/or possess a wide ranges of habitats preferences. In the suburban stand, we identified the 22 families, 31 genera and 35 species, including not only city species, but also forest-specific species such as Zosterops japanicus and Aegihalos caudatus were also observed. The number of species found per census and Shannon-Weaver index (H’) for the bird fauna were higher in the suburban stand than in the woodlot. Furthermore, the suburban stand exhibited a pronounced seasonal variation in the number of bird species than the woodlot; the species number was markedly highest in winter. These results suggest that the suburban stand provided the habitats for various bird species.
近年,都市開発による緑地の減少や分断化によって都市部に生息する鳥類相の多様性の低下が懸念されている。そこで本研究は,三重県津市の三重大学上浜構内(以下、三重大上浜構内)の緑地(市街地緑地)と㈱赤塚植物園が保有する都市近郊林である栽培見本農場レッドヒルヒーサーの森(以下、ヒーサーの森)における鳥類相の実態を32ヶ月にわたり調査し,鳥類相の多様性に影響を及ぼす要因を検討した。月1回程度の頻度でラインセンサス法を実施した結果,三重大上浜構内では23科27属31種の鳥類が出現し,開放地を好む種や生息範囲の広い種などの都市利用種や都市適応種が多数出現した。ヒーサーの森では,22科31属35種の鳥類が出現し,都市利用種や都市適応種に加えてメジロやエナガなど都市忌避種も多数出現した。調査日あたりの種数密度とShannon-Weaver の多様度指数(H’)は,三重大上浜構内よりもヒーサーの森で高かった。さらに,鳥類の種数は三重大上浜構内の緑地よりもヒーサーの森で大きく季節変動し,特に冬季に種数の増加が認められた。以上から,都市近郊林であるヒーサーの森は都市域においてより多くの種の鳥類に棲みかを提供していることが示唆された。
