The purpose of this research was to obtain knowledge on training the Sense of Coherence (SOC) using exploratory examinations of the influences of spontaneous self-concept and spontaneous world-concept on SOC based on analysis of the Twenty Statement Test for university students. As a result, from the viewpoint of spontaneous self-concept, a highly preferred description using “positive expression (~ so like, good)” had a positive effect on SOC, and a less preferred description using “negative expression (~ not like, bad)” showed a negative effect on SOC. From the spontaneous world-concept, “subjective features (large, narrow, wide, round)” had a positive effect on total SOC and on Comprehensibility, which is one of the sub-factors of SOC, and the less preferred description using “war / peace (war, there is peace)” showed a positive effect on total SOC and on manageability and meaningfulness, which are sub-factors of SOC. Also, from the examinations of the correlation between spontaneous world-concept and SOC, it was shown that there was a positive correlation. Furthermore, from examining the interaction between spontaneous self-concept and spontaneous world-concept on SOC, those with less preferred spontaneous self-views and highly preferred spontaneous world-concepts had the lowest SOCs. Additionally, those with highly preferred spontaneous self-concepts and less preferred spontaneous world-concepts had the highest SOCs. From these results, we discussed the approach towards training the SOC.
