Popis: | 学術論文 Human beings have developed various cooking tools since the discovery of fire and kamado kitchen stoves (kamado hereafter) constitute the important facet of this evolution. A number of studies on kamado have been carried out until today but most of them are from the folkloric perspective. Bearing these precious studies in mind, this paper develops an unprecedented analysis of the diversity of kamado in a cross-sectional and typological manner from a wider perspective of design. It is almost impossible to compare all examples of kamado. However, we consider that integration of comparative studies of the historical and design factors of selected examples leads to the typological guidelines which reveal the essential relations of kamado to the kitchen and dietary culture of Japan. As the initial step, this paper focuses on the kamado preserved mainly in the precincts of shrines and temples, and analyzes how people have made them sacred or introduced them into their daily life. Fieldwork including on-the-spot surveys, interviews or documentary research were conducted on 22 kamado in 13 precincts. The subsequent analyses revealed four important factors for the typology of kamado. They are kamado’s relations to Shinto deities and Buddhas, people, dietary habits, and decorative design. We intend to increase such case studies and more comprehensive classification is expected. |
