We have presented a new method of deterioration diagnosis for middle-sized power transformers by optical analysis. The new method is applied a phenomenon that both deteriorated insulating oil and light absorption of paper over specific wave length range according to their deterioration level. The method has features that oil extraction is not required and that deterioration diagnosis is possible in real time. The deterioration degree of insulating oil and insulating paper can be estimated using the diagnostic master curve which is obtained with an accelerated heating experiment. The optical absorption loss and reflection loss was correlated with the average value of polymerization degree of insulating paper. Consequently this optical diagnosis technique is theoretically applicable to diagnosis for power transformers. |
