First, we examined the image of a desirable classroom teacher as conceived by university students; second, we analyzed the relationship between the image of a desirable classroom teacher and the anticipatory socialization of teaching; finally, we investigated the relationship between the image of a desirable classroom teacher and that of the teaching profession. The analysis revealed that many university students consider the standardized image of a “classroom teacher with teaching expertise" to be desirable. The anticipatory socialization of the classroom teacher was found to have limitations. Furthermore, it was suggested that university students see the classroom teacher in a favorable light under the constraints of educational discourse. The paper then discusses classroom management that emphasizes children's independence and liberation from the dominant educational discourse. |
