The purpose of this paper is to explore the role of Pro Bono in legal profession education in the UK. Pro Bono is a social contribution performed by professionals from a diverse range of disciplines. These professionals work in volunteer capacity to solve social problems with the use of expert skills and knowledge that they have gained in their occupations. In legal profession education of UK, higher education, the role of the legal profession and the work of law firms have each undergone major changes. Among these changes, there has been an expansion of Pro Bono activities carried out by cooperation between universities, professional associations, and law firms. This paper clarifies 1) how the Pro Bono activities of the legal profession are organized, 2) what experiences students and the law profession obtain by participation in Pro Bono activities, and 3) what roles Pro Bono plays in and outside of the training system. |
