In order to evaluate the indoor thermal environment, a field survey was conducted at a temple in Nagano Prefecture in summer 2015. Air temperature, radiant temperature, and relative humidity were recorded every 10 minutes on the day a Segaki Buddhist memorial service was held. Seventy two people responded to the survey about the thermal environment during the service. Since the HVAC(heating, ventilating and air conditioning)system was not installed in the priest’s kitchen and living room, (Kuri)where the questionnaire survey was carried out, the indoor air temperature changed according to the outdoor temperature. Significantly lower thermal sensation and higher comfort sensation were indicated by the people who felt air velocity from the fans than those who did not. Controlling air velocity and natural ventilation possibly lead to higher human comfort even in rooms or buildings in old temples without HVAC systems. |
