Popis: The pathogenesis and clinical feature of cerebral embolism were studied in nine mam hospitals in Okinawa Prefecture. Results were summarized as follows : 1. The most important basic disease of cerebral embolism was mitral valve disease, especially mitral stenosis was more frequent. 2. In patients with cerebral embolism, the incidence of atrial fibrillation derived from mitral valve disease was higher than control group statistically. 3. The onset age of cerebral embolism in mitral valvedisease was younger than the other groups. 4. Cerebral embolism was detected in 23% of all mitral valvedisease, while 16% in patients with non-valvular atriall fibrillation. 5. The incidence of cerebral embolism in the group with LA thrombus formation was not higher statistically compared to control group. 6. The seventy of hemodynamic data did not show important relationship between cases of cerebral embolism and non-embolism in mitral valve disease. 7. It was seemed that anticoagulant therapy on the prophylaxis of thromboembolism has not been considered to be important opposed to the high incidence of cerebral embolism in patients with mitral valve disease or atrial fibrillation. We emphasize the importance of introducing anticoagulant therapy more actively and carefully considering complication.
