Elementary school upper class children who are in pre-adolescence have the tendency to hesitate to express themselves during the growing stage of theirself-concept. Music education is a subject which allows children to express themselves through singing and playing musical instruments. To encourage children to be active in musical expression, it is important for teachers not only to protect children’s self-concept but also to provide an environment in which the children feel free to express themselves comfortably. One of the practical methods for this is the musical creative activity. This study focuses on the concept of both protecting and encouraging musical expression in some cases. Since the musical creative activity is an “abstractive activity”; therefore, this thesis is to confirm that music is a meaningful educational activity for children which allows them to be proactive listeners and composers. |
