Popis: The relationship between monthly rice production and rainfall of the Philippines was examined by region to assess the impact of interannual variation of rainfall on rice production of the country. The cluster analysis was applied to the mean monthly distribution of rice production for understanding the regionally of harvesting season. The regions that have two major harvesting seasons from March to May and from September to November, except for the Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao, were divided into seven classes with the monthly share of annual production. The main harvesting season usually appeared just after the rainy season terminated. The peak period in the rainy season preceded the peak of harvesting season by two to four months. Based on these relationships between the rainy and harvesting seasons and the planting periods, the influence of interannual variation in the rainfall on rice production was investigated. The result showed that the significant relationship between the interannual variation of rainfall and rice production in most of regions appeared in the first half of the year, except for the northern and Central Luzon Island. The region with a peak of harvest in this period was considered to have high vulnerability of rice production on the interannual variation of rainfall.
