Medium-sized (E)-alkenes have aroused interest in structural organic chemistry and synthetic organic chemistry because of their unique stereochemical properties and reactivity. However efficient synthetic methods to approach medium-sized (E)-alkenes have been quite limited owing to their high strain. To this end, we have developed E-selective photochemical isomerization using selective adsorption property of AgNO_3-impregnated silica-gel toward strained (E)-alkene, which allows efficient synthesis of medium-sized (E)-alkenes from more accessible Z isomers. |
