In this study, we examined measures for the establishment of an inclusive education system in schools through making efforts for reasonable accommodation and improvements in the basic environment in elementary and junior high schools. An interview-type survey was conducted to verify the results and issues related to these efforts, including an evaluation against a reasonable accommodation checklist prepared by the author. As a next step, improvements in the school support system and efforts to build awareness by teachers and students were pursued. The need for education to further understanding about people with disabilities, training on reasonable accommodation and more specific details regarding individual educational support plans were raised as issues to be discussed. Based on the results of our study, we propose that there is the need for a mutual school support system, as well as class-wide classroom management, lesson planning and the strengthening of guidance functions, for the establishment of an inclusive education system. |
