In connection with the kindergarten teacher training course at our college, we analyzed the current status and issues in practice teaching in kindergartens, mainly on the basis of evaluations given by the host kindergartens. Evaluation feedback was given by a total of 95 host kindergartens for 100 student trainees over a three-year period from 2012 to 2014. We added up the evaluation points, which were assigned on a 5-point scale, for 12 items of the Practice Teaching Evaluation Table sent from each kindergarten and performed an itemized analysis. The results showed that the student trainees, regardless of their year of study, were assessed low in “proactiveness”within the category of teaching attitude and in “planning”within the category of teaching procedure. A number of problems were also found with regard to “recording method”in the category of teaching procedure. Meanwhile, high scores were given to “appropriate dress” and “cooperativeness”in the category of teaching attitude. Among the items of teaching procedure, the highest score was given to “relationship with children.” The evaluations by the host kindergartens revealed the characteristics and issues of the students majoring in child development at our college. The evaluation feedback also served as a tool for understanding what types of student trainees kindergartens need and which personal characteristics are desired for kindergarten staff. The analysis suggested that further study will be necessary to elucidate the relationships between practice teaching and the content/method of classroom lessons.
