Popis: In this study, the authors examined the psychological processes of parents who adopted their children through special adoption. Compared to the past studies, this study is unique in that it examines the processes of more diverse range of adoptive parents, for example, fathers, and couples who have not experienced fertility treatment. The authors conducted semi-structured interviews with six adoptive parents and analyzed the data qualitatively by creating TEM diagram. Three major phases were observed during the processes of adoption. In the first phase, the couple communicates and reconciles various types of feeling associated with special adoption. The second phase involves learning about special adoption and parenting through training sessions, while seeking cooperation of those who are around them. The efforts the couple make in this phase form the foundation of the relationship with their children. The third phase is the time to meet their child and become parents. Adoptive parents tend to have concern that the birth parents’ intentions may change. It is essential to provide support for communication between couples who are considering using the special adoption system at an early stage.
