Popis: Conscious as individuals, in addition to their identity as wives and mothers, in nonworking, fulltime, housewives caring for children was investigated. An interview survey was conducted with nine mothers who participated in the study. The results indicated that they were conscious of themselves as being individuals, in addition to their other roles. Moreover, their concern for activities that emphasized their individuality was high. It was possible to categorize the participants into three types (Harmony type, Independent type. Independent-desiring type) according to how a participant recognized herself : as an individual, as a wife, or as a mother. It was concluded that irrespectively of the category, the participants' appreciation about the adaptive nature of their current situation depended on their self-image as an individual.
