Act for Eliminating Discrimination against Persons with Disabilities, a domestic law established in response to Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, has its basic framework on the social model of disability. The model conceptualizes disabilities existing in the society, rather than in the person him/herself. The paper first examines from the standpoint of a theory of the social self how the social model elaborates the concept(s) of disabilities, then also discusses the views on the care for those with disabilities. |
