In this study, the relation of athletes' attentional focus in competition and attentional styles with their psychological and social skills in sport was investigated. Subjects were 160 undergraduate students from a Japanese college of physical education. They were administered four kinds of questionnaire, including an attentional focus inventory, the Test of Attentional and Interpersonal Style (TAIS), the Diagnostic Inventory for Psychological Competitive Ability (DIPCA), and a competitive social skills inventory. Results indicate that attentional focus and attentional styles are significantly related with specific factors of psychological and social skills in sport, respectively, although any causal relationship between attentional focus/styles and psychological/social skills were not examined. |
