In Reactor Measurement of Electrical Conductivity of Single Crystal α-Alumina

Popis: The recent advance of nuclear-fusion-reactor development renewed the interest to the well-known phenomenon called the radiation induced conductivity, the RIC. The RIC is that the ceramic insulators increase their electrical conductivity under exposure to ionizing irradiations. Here, we tried to measure the RIC of single crystal α-alumina in the fission reactor, JMTR. The α-alumina was encapsulated in the well-electrically insulated casing and was exposed to the fast neutron irradiation of up to 3.4x10^ n/m^2 s and to the γ-ray of up to 1.5x10^4 Gy/s.
