Popis: Purpose : This study aimed to examine older adults’ employment by clarifying the actual conditions of people receiving training for Home-visiting Service A workers in I City(hereinafter,“kaji-enja”ˆ ) and the influence of working as kaji-enjaˆ on their health. Methods : An anonymous self-administered questionnaire mail survey was conducted on 184people who participated in kaji-enjaˆ training held from 2016 to 2018 and completed the trainingcourse. The questions asked included their age, gender, subjective health, and things relatedto employment as kaji-enja.ˆ After performing a simple tabulation of the survey items, we divided the results by the age categories of “under 65 years old” and “65 years old or older” andconducted a cross-tabulation analysis. Free descriptive answers were grouped by similar content. Results : We received responses from 96 people(response rate 52.2%). Among the respondents, 55(57.3%)were 65 years old or older, 15(27.3%)of whom were old-old adults aged75 years or older. The gender breakdown was seven men(12.7%)and 48 women(87.3%).Of those aged 65 years or older, 83.7% felt healthy, and 27.3% had continued working askaji-enja.ˆ As for the working period and frequency, 73.3% had continued working for over oneyear, and 80.0% worked more than once a week. The most common tasks undertaken were,in descending order, “cleaning,” “cooking,” and “shopping.” The percentage of those who answered that working as kaji-enjaˆ had contributed to maintaining their good health was 93.3%,which was higher than those under 65. Concerning subjective health, 20.0% of older adultsworking as kaji-enjaˆ answered “Very healthy,” and 66.7% answered, “Think on the healthyside.” Among older adults not working as kaji-enja,ˆ 27.6% answered “Very healthy,” and 58.6%answered, “Think on the healthy side.”; the former is higher, and the latter is lower than olderadults working as kaji-enja.ˆ The reasons they did not start working after completing the training included “There was no job offer” and “The job content differed from what I imagined.”Discussion : Many older adults who participated in kaji-enjaˆ training in I City were mentally and physically healthy. Older adults who led the training to employment as kaji-enjaˆ hadworked for over one year and more than once a week. Because they thought it contributed tomaintaining their good health, we believe that kaji-enjaˆ can serve as an opportunity for olderadults to be employed and active. Our findings suggest the need to provide information andcoordinate tasks according to the participants’ requirements to lead a larger number of olderadult participants to be employed.
