This paper aims at giving consideration to the welfare problems concerning the old-aged who livealone at Jumonji town. one of the small towns situated in the south of Akita prefecture. As there liverelatively more aged people in the districts among the mountains. to study the lives of the aged there,especially of those who live alone, will be significant for the further study of the welfare problems inJapanese society.The research has resulted in the recognition that the alone-living-aged in Jumonji town haveformed a close network among their families, relatives and friends. On the other hand they make littleuse of welfare services, of which they have few expectations. They are not willing to participate in asocial activity. Lack of willingness of taking part in the society is observed among them. Being limitedin the neighborhood, the close network seems to cause the lack of their social consciousness. |
