Popis: Longterm hospitals are not places for final settlement if we consider their purpose. However, even if medical staffs approve for staying out overnight or being out of facilities, it is not a few that their family deny the approval. We made a support for patient care who was never able to stay out over-night, performing a family assessment based on the Calgary Family Assessment Model. By the sup-port, a recognition by the family toward the patient and a self-expressing by the patient were changed and, as a result, the family relationship could be recovered. As this nursing process was studied, we concluded the following 5 points regarding a family nurs-ing of a long-term nursing home patient. 1 The family system assessment revealed the family situation and history, and it will be founda-tion for nurses to establish a relationship respecting independence in the family. 2 The family system assessment is effective to remove a negative image set by a nurse who uncon-sciously thinks they are a problem family. If the nurse's attitude changes, the appeals from the fam-ily to the nurse will be increased. 3 The relationship between a long-term nursing home patient and the family tends to be dimin-ished. An establishment of nursing plan based on the assessment of family relation is a key factor for family nursing plan. 4 A family with a long-term nursing home patient is seeking a support that makes them involved in life-cycle and life-event. 5 Regarding family nursing care, a support which initiates a change in the family is a necessary thchnique for the nurses.
