This study demonstrates the details of our instructions and advice on exercise support by sitting on a “bench chair”, the equipment for adapted sports developed by the author (“bench chair”), and reports its effectiveness in adapted sports activities for people with severe and multiple disabilities who have reached adulthood, which is implemented in day care services at Facility A. A “bench chair” is adapted sports equipment developed by the author, on which the subjects can sit with an instructor to perform sports activities, getting off from the wheelchair. To assess the effectiveness of “bench chair”, we conducted (1) behavioral analysis of activity records (photos and video-recording) of the intervention program, (2) a questionnaire survey of the staff, and (3) a personal interview survey of the staff. The results of the analysis suggest that the use of “bench chair” in exercise programs is effective in improving the posture maintenance and exercise quality of the subject and facilitating support of the instructor. |
