After Japanese orphans leave China to return to Japan, special factors cause problems to arise during the process of adaptation and when receiving medical evaluations. In order to understand how best to maintain the health of these orphans and their spouses after repatriation, we investigated their preventive health behaviors and attributes, medical treatment reception behaviors and knowledge of health, social support, and related factors. Subjects for analysis were 122 Japanese orphans and their spouses who live in the Chugoku region and on the island of Shikoku, and who are being supported by one of the China returnee support centers. The survey sheet, translated into Chinese, was composed of Munakata et al’s 21-item preventive health behavior scale, attribute measures, medical treatment reception behavior and knowledge of health, social support, and related key points. The results of the comparative analysis show that the statistically signifi cant factors for preventive health behavior were: 1) within the attributes measured, the presence of a family; 2) within the area of medical treatment reception behavior and knowledge of health, the group that possessed and understood knowledge relating to improving one’s health; and 3) within the area of social support, the group that was provided with Japanese interpretation. These results imply that it is necessary to provide information about health to people living alone, and to create an environment with an eye toward personal assistance, including interpretation service. |
