Cases of pheochromocytoma so far reported in Japan as of 1965 were discussed on a statistical point of view. They consisted of those confirmed on surgery or on autopsy. A marked increase in number of the cases confirmed on operation after 1960 seemed to reflect an advance of biochemistry of catecholamine which enabled the physician to establish a diagnosis preoperatively and seemed due to an improved management of anesthesia for surgery. Regarding daily amount of urinary catecholamines, it was found that either the total amount of epinephrine or the ratio of epinephrine to norepinephrine correlated to the rate of operative success, that is, the less the former the more favorable the latter. |
