Popis: | This paper presents an analysis of the Korean adverb mak using conversational data. Traditional grammar books ascribe to the adverb mak two different usages. One is as a temporal adverb, meaning ' just now, just then' . The other mak is an abbreviated form of the degree/manner adverb makwu, meaning variously ' hard, much, carelessly, blindly' . As an adverb mak can be used to modify either the whole sentence or the verb. However, a closer examination of casual conversations between friends shows that mak plays roles not previously described in traditional grammar books, and functions in ways that have not been noted; it frequently occurs at the end of an utterance, and has the function of introducing/ ending quotes. In this paper I propose that these uses of mak can be accounted for if it is described as a discourse marker which expresses the speaker' s emotions and attitude. By employing mak the speaker achieves the interactional goal of heightening the involvement of the interlocutor, which ultimately contributes to the dynamics of face-to-face interaction. 研究論文 |
