Popis: In order to clarify educational issues in special needs classes and the competencies required of the teachers of those classes, we conducted a questionnaire survey of elementary school teachers in charge of special needs classes. In this survey, we collected basic data such as the number of children enrolled and their types of disabilities; the teacherʼs job title, total years of teaching experience, and years of teaching experience in special needs classes; whether or not the teacher has a license for special needs instruction, and whether or not the teacher is in charge of a special needs education coordinator; as well as items related to teaching special needs classes. Of 149 teachers in charge of special needs classes at elementary schools in Saga City, 65 responded to the survey. According to the results of the questionnaire, the most significant ”difficulty” involved in teaching special needs classes is ” teaching children with different conditions and goals at the same time,” with approximately 63% of respondents indicating that it is ”very difficult.
