A school-wide support to encourage all students to attend school was examined from the perspectives of school psychology and counseling psychology. An attendance support system which consisted of various support services was developed. The relationship among teachers was facilitated, and mutual support was encouraged. Improved relationships among teachers enhanced teacher-cooperation. The focus on supporting non-attending students was shifted to encouraging all students to enjoy attending school. Teachers were encouraged to create a classroom atmosphere in which students can feel free to be themselves, to feel they can achieve their goals, and feel that they are respected by their peers. Effectively encouraging all students to attend school can be achieved by teachers' daily educational practices in the classrooms. Especially, improving lessons and class management are important parts of the practice. |
