The present study examined how the originality of faculty was among the motivations for students’enrollment at university. University freshmen studying at the Department of Human Health at Kurume University (N = 140) completed questionnaires on the originality of the faculty. As a result of factor analysis, “internal expectation,” “external expectation,” “qualification / expertness,” and “non-purpose”were extracted. The item “originality of faculty” was included in internal expectation. In addition, cluster analysis indicated that some students were motivated to acquire qualifications and gain professional knowledge and skills while others had a definite goal to go to study further. Through this research, it became clear that some students are attracted to the originality indicated by the university along with their other motivations. We also investigated the case of college students who did not have a definite motivation during their first year. |
