Popis: The Sui-yuan 綏遠 affair was an amateurish plot framed and carried out by a group led by a staff officer of the Kwan-tung Army 關東軍, who aimed to invade North-western China. This affair provoked the Chinese people to strong resistance, and brought about a new development in the situation of the anti-Japanese movement in North-western China, as it occurred in a tense atmosphere on the eve of the all out war between Japan and China. In this article, the author traces the reaction of the Guo-min-dang 國民黨 against this affair, the upsurge and shift of the tone of anti-Japanese arguments through the Xi-pei-xiang-dao 西北嚮導 (published at Xi-an 西安), and the activities of the Red Army 紅軍 which collected at the Shan-pei 陝北 headquarters after Chang-zheng 長征 (the Long March). The author shows through these studies that the time for the formation of an anti-Japanese united front, the formation of which the Communist Party of China had appealed for, was nearing rapidly, making the Sui-yuan affair a turning point.
