Popis: A study was carried out on family caregivers of inpatients and outpatients with schizophrenia at the psychiatric hospital. Logistic regression analysis, a form of multivariate analysis, was used to examine the effects of attitude towards intention of discharge or hospitalization for individuals with schizophrenia of the patient and acute symptoms in the patient and subjective difficulties and burden in caregiving, cohabitation with the patient. The odds were significantly higher to desire hospitalization of the patient after experiencing acute symptoms of violence behavior and severe physical violence. Examinations of the relationships between the Family Burden and Distress Scale (FBDS) that measures subjective difficulty and burden of family caregivers revealed a significant association between the intention of hospitalization of the patient and total FBDS score as well as the “subjective burden and depression resulting from the patientʼs illness” and “lack of knowledge of the illness and anxiety about the future” subscales. These findings suggest that intention of individuals to have a family member with schizophrenia hospitalized may be affected by such factors as attitude towards acute symptoms in the patient, the mental health effects of providing care, and subjective difficulties and burden from lack of knowledge of the patientʼs illness.
