Conducted on 82 fourth-year students in the nursing school of A College who were scheduled to undertake clinical practice for adult nursing (practice hereafter), this study aimed to clarify the actual conditions of self-evaluation of their practice performance and to evaluate the effectiveness of learning-support through preliminary interviews. Practice performance was self-evaluated, with primary focus on the following 6 categories: (1) interpersonal relations, (2) nursing procedures, (3) nursing techniques, (4) safety and responsibility, (5) ethics, and (6) basic knowledge and learning methods. In addition, the survey made use of self-made questionnaires, and simple tabulation and U Tests were conducted to determine correlations between the items and to make comparisons between the results before and after the practice. The results of this self-evaluation of practice performance showed higher scores after practice in all areas, with closer relationships between certain learning categories. In particular, item (6) above was found to be significantly correlated with items (1), (2), (4) and (5), while item (5) was in turn correlated with items (1) and (4), and item (1) with item (4). Also, when asked to evaluate the appropriateness of the timing of the pre-practice educational intervention and the effectiveness of both self-evaluation of performance and learning-support by preliminary interviews, 90% of the students expressed satisfaction.
