Popis: | The linear stability of the steady 2D flow in cylindrical half-zones is investigated for intermediate Prandtl numbers. In a second step, the analysis is extended to half zones with a statically deformed free surface. The cylindrical model led to new insights into the role of heat transfer through the free surface. In particular, the cooling effect by evaporation of volatile fluids qualitatively modifies the instability mechanism for intermediate Prandtl numbers. Parameter variations have been carried out to compare experimental and numerical results. A new mathematical model has been developed for the half-zone configuration with a non-cylindrical free surface and a numerical code has been implemented. After validation of the code and grid-convergence tests, the linear stability of the steady 2D flow has been investigated for different volumes of fluid and for zero gravity conditions. Results for small and intermediate Prandtl numbers confirm the strong influence of the geometry on the critical Reynolds and azimuthal wave numbers, but not on the characters of the instabilities. 資料番号: AA0010763007 レポート番号: NASDA-TMR-000006E |
