| Popis: | In this research we analyze the return policy between Japanese apparel manufacturers and departmentstores with the newsvendor model considering risk shifting to the manufacturers. The return policieshave changed the operational detail with much controversy as to its practical value. We analyze the twotypes of return polices using a risk-averse newsvendor model. The results indicate that: (i) the entiresupply chain optimization can be achieved in the policies; (ii) the risk of apparels in a return policycan be not so high depending on the market uncertainty; (iii) as the market uncertainty increases, theapparels might change their business model to SPA model; and (iv) under a return policy the profitabilityof department stores decreases because of the increasing bargaining power of apparels. |
