Popis: We believe that, if students can participate in activities in the local community voluntarily and continuously, it would be a great opportunity for character enrichment through various experiences that cannot be obtained in the university life. Working as a volunteer (early experience study) in a pharmacy and the like would give students an opportunity to learn the basic knowledge, skills and comportment to become a pharmaceutical specialist, or a chance to imagine his/her own future as a pharmacist. We developed a pharmacy volunteer program for students to participate voluntarily so that students can learn the proper behaviors in dealing with people and also have a chance to become familiar with the ethics of medical profession. We investigated the effect of academic year of the participating students on their willingness to learn (active behavior, observation items at the pharmacy) in the pharmacy volunteer program. In the program, a student could participate for 5 days in principle, but he/she was allowed to repeat the program. It was recognized that second year students demonstrated more active behavior than the first year students in the pharmacy volunteer program (including group working). This result would suggest that the pharmacy volunteer program induces more voluntary actions by the students by combining their pharmaceutical knowledge with real experience at the pharmacy, giving the students the opportunity for character enrichment.
